Who will look after my child?

We support positive relationships at Little Engineers. We know it can be daunting leaving your child for the first time, and this why we ensure that each child has a key worker. Your child’s key worker will:

• Support your child’s settling in period
• Look after the learning and development of your child
• Know your child’s care needs
• Keep you up to date with your child’s early learning
• Meet with you termly

Will my child be safe?

Little Engineers ensure that staff are:

• Interviewed
• Provided suitable references
• Gone through the DBS process
• Thorough induction has been undertaken
• Undertaken training in child protection, safeguarding and child protection.
• Have full and relevant qualifications

What are the adult to child ratios?

The ratio for 6 months - 1 years old is a 1:3 adult to child ratio, 2 year olds is 1:4 adult to child ratio, and 3 year olds is a 1:8 adult to child ratio, which follow the EYFS statutory framework. We do not promote lone working in early years. There will always be two staff members with children. 

What are the Security procedures?

The building is secured and the only people that can get into the nursery area have a fob. All visitors entering the premises, have a duty of care towards the welfare and safety of the children and staff. All visitors must sign in and out of the Nursery at the reception area. All visitors will be issued with a badge which should be worn and be visible at all times. All visitors must be accompanied by a member of staff at all times unless otherwise advised. Please note that mobile phones are not permitted to be out in the Nursery office. If you need to make a call, please go outside. Please do not take any pictures of any of the children.

Adults who have not been seen before are asked for a password. If the password is wrong the child’s parents will be contacted immediately.

We take the safety of the children very seriously here at Little Engineers Nursery. We carry out daily risk assessments - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We have a fire alarm system built in where we do regular fire alarm testing.

Holidays & Sickness

Please inform us if you are going on holiday. You can do this either by sending us an email, sending us a message or reporting a holiday on the Famly App. We will still charge you for the days your child will usually to attend in order to keep their place.

Children should not be at the Nursery if they are not well. The best place for them to be is at home. Please either call or send us a message or email if your child will not be in for the day.

In the event of your child becoming unwell at nursery, you will be contacted to come and collect your child as soon as possible. If your child has had a high temperature (38c) we will administer paracetamol or ibuprofen with your permission. If your child’s temperature is at a standstill or becomes higher you’re required to collect your child immediately. Your child cannot attend the nursery for 24 hours from the last time that their temperature was high.

If your child has had 3 or more loose stools this could mean that they have diarrhoea. In the case of infectious diseases such as Ear infection, Diarrhoea, and Vomiting, children must not attend the nursery for 48 hours from the time of their last loose stool or last time throwing up.

If a child has conjunctivitis they should be taken to the doctors to get PRESCRIBED eye drops. Once they have taken the eye drops for 24 hours, they can then return to nursery with the eye drops. We have more conditions and the recovery time in our Health and Allergy Policy.

If a child should be given medication at nursery it must be prescribed by a doctor and have the chemist label printed on the box or bottle with your child’s full name, date and dosage required. You will need to fill in a medical care plan. If a child has not been given the medication before, they must take the first dose at home. After 24 hours they can attend the nursery. If a child is unwell the manager or deputy manager has the right to refuse admission until the child is feeling much better within themselves.

During the admission process and in induction the keyworker will discuss with you whether your child has any dietary requirements and most importantly any allergies or health concerns.
